Lions Clubs International began a partnership with Habitat for Humanity International in 2000 and has provided US$12 million to help construct homes for people with disabilities. A total of 802 homes in Canada, Korea, Poland, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Philippines, United States, Hungary, and Romania have been built through the partnership.
In 2001, the Stephenville Lions Club submitted an application for a $27,000.00 grant that equaled 75% of the projected cost of building a simple decent house with the Petty family. Upon approval from LCIF, the Stephenville Lions Club and Erath County Habitat for Humanity each contributed $4,500 towards the $36,000.00 project. The house featured features which assist disabled members of the family in their day to day activities. Members of the Stephenville, TX Lions Club, the Dublin, TX Lions Club and the Breckenridge, TX Lions Club worked alongside other Habitat volunteers and the Petty family to complete the home in the Fall of 2001.
